Yongjian (Tomy) Huang
FIDM/ Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
Chinese native Yongjian (Tomy) Huang moved from Beijing to Los Angeles to attend FIDM. His Asian history is strongly reflected in his collection, which invokes ancient Chinese architecture and the influence of Japanese origami. He chooses subtly textured textiles for the apparel he designs for both men and women, opting for dressy separates in red, the Chinese color of luck, along with white and champagne. Huang looks to Alexander McQueen and John Galliano for design inspiration but from a distinctively Asian perspective.
